Tuesday Night Champions League Preview: ATH vs CHE , LAZ vs BAY

  • Champions league football returns tonight , with two games to played.
  • Chelsea face Atletico Madrid at a neutral ground
  •  Lazio take on Fc Bayern Munich

Being a night of Champions league football, EKO HOT BLOG have analysed the games for your perusal as European heavyweight teams goes head to head.

Atletico Madrid vs Chelsea

Chelsea have shown an immediate upturn in domestic form, winning 5 of their 7 games in all competitions and conceding just 2 goals.

Tuchel faces his biggest challenge yet here in the Champions League round of 16 first leg against an Atletico side who had not lost in their last 12 matches in La Liga before their defeat vs Levante at the weekend.

The visitors were defensively very strong in the group stage, conceding just two goals in 6 matches and they will need to be so again here.

With the host also expected to give very little away in this first leg, as manager Diego Simeone will be desperate to ensure Chelsea do not grab a vital away goal, a low scoring affair is expected

Lazio vs Bayern Munich

Defending champions Bayern Munich travel to Italy for this Champions League round of 16 first leg, with Lazio the hosts at the Stadio Olimpico.

The visitors unsurprisingly topped Group A with ease, accruing 16 points from a possible 18 and scoring 18 goals, while the host scraped through as runners up of a group topped by Bayern’s German rivals Borussia Dortmund.

While the Italians are a strong side, especially at home where they have won their last 7 matches in all competitions, Bayern provide a different level of opposition and boast a frontline that includes star striker Robert Lewandowski alongside winger Kingsley Coman, not to mention the return to Champions League action of Joshua Kimmich.

Such potent weapons going forward should ultimately overwhelm the hosts and lead the Bundesliga side to a first leg victory.
