Ransom, Following the 11th December 2020 kidnap of over 300 students from a boys’ secondary boarding school on the outskirts of Kankara, Katsina State, northern Nigeria by a gang of gunmen on motorcycles, who attacked the Government Science Secondary School, where more than 800 pupils reside, for over an hour, the Nigerian ministry of defence assured the public that the bandits responsible are being tracked and a special military operation was ongoing to rescue the boys and disarm the bandits.
However, many Nigerians were amazed when when the Katsina state government secured the rescue of the boys after striking an unannounced deal with thee bandits.

It should be known, that negotiating with criminals or placing criminal groups on amnesty will only encourage other people to take to crime, and that could have been a major factor why another set of armed bandits kidnapped 42 persons at Kagara last Wednesday.
The Nigerian security and political leadership must learn from the United states of America that doesn’t negotiate with criminals, especially terrorists, but rather fight them or compel them to order.
