It was a moment of tributes and adulations on Thursday, February 25th, 2021 as those who felt the richly impactful life of Alhaja Mulikat Onibon, the Iyaloja-General of Epe Division, poured out their hearts in praise of a mother whose devotion to helping others was without compare.
As gathered by Eko Hot Blog, while preparations for her final interment was ongoing, groups of market men and women in the Division paid homage to the deceased children and family members, with several testimonies of her memorable influences.
Notable among the groups were the executives of Ayetoro and Oluwo Market Men and Women Association.
In an interview with Eko Hot Blog, the Babaloja of Ayetoro Market, Epe, Alhaji Tajudeen Nureni, described Alhaja Onibon as a selfless leader with incredible leadership skills. She was also described as a mother whose conflict resolution skills was second to none.
Alhaji Tajudeen further stated that the deceased was an active grassroots mobilizer for the ruling party, All Progressives Congress.
“The late Iyaloja of Epe Division is a rare breed leader who is selfless. She wasn’t in the habit of embezzlement of market funds and slots from the Lagos State Government. She always mobilizes us for the APC during elections and she spread the benefits across the board”, he said.
In the same vein, the Iyaloja of Oluwo Market, Alhaja Adeola Giwa, described the life and times of Alhaja Onibon as a fulfilled one, citing her impartiality in awarding opportunities as a rare virtue that would be missed.
“Alhaja Onibon is a responsible and loving mother. A week ago, when I came here concerning the installation of Babaloja. I came in the company of the Babaloja and she stood up and gave him her blessings. I pray God forgives her sins and grant her Aljanat firdaus”.
“Mama is not selfish but contented. The Hajj slot as much as it was given to her, she didn’t hand it to any of her children, she hands it to us in the market. She would appeal to us to allow those who haven’t had the opportunity to be considered”, she stated.
She prayed that whoever would replace her should be gifted with similar qualities of wisdom and compassion.
Also, Prince Olowofela Oyekan, Secretary-General, Association of Commodity Market Women and Men of Nigeria, Epe Division Chapter, while speaking with Eko hot blog described Alhaja Onibon as a compassionate and charitable woman who held everyone’s best interests at heart.
“Mama led us with her love, support, hospitality and caring heart.
In Epe Division, I don’t believe there’s anyone that can match mama’s leadership accomplishments. The shoes she left behind is too big for anyone to put on”, he said.
