  • A kwara based local media has looked into the crisis rocking Kwara State water corporation. 

Investigation by a local media platform in Kwara State “Just Event Online” has revealed more about the crisis rocking the Kwara State Water Corporation and the unknown reasons behind Ministry of Water Resources refusal to comply with the Directive of His Excellency, Governor of Kwara State.

EkohotBlog gathered that the position of General Manager of the Corporation became vacant in July 2019.

According to the platform, later in the year, the advert was placed to fill the vacant positions of G.M of Water Corporation and RUWASSA, and Late Chief of Staff, Alh. Login spearhead the Interview panel for applicants.

In November 2019, the most Senior Staff of the Corporation, Engr. Shehu Umar was appointed the Acting General Manager of Kwara State Water Corporation pending the announcement of the appointment Committee, the media body revealed.

COVID-19 happened in early 2020, and the Late Chief of Staff (RIP) was lost to the cold hands of death.

In December 2020, the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Maman Saba Jibril wrote to the Kwara State Ministry of Water Resources, conveying the directives of His Excellency, Mall. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to ADVERTISE the position of the General Manager of Kwara State Water Corporation (KWWC) and RUWASSA, and appoint Substantive General Manager for the two Parastatals under the supervision of the Ministry.

Six (6) months after; June 2021,K Kwara State Ministry of Water Resources only advertised the position of General Manager of RUWASSA, stepping aside the directives of His Excellency to Advertise that of the General Manager of Kwara State Water Corporation, leaving Engr. Shehu Umar to continue as Acting General Manager of KWWC.

The reason for the action of the Ministry would be brought forward as soon as the principal officers of the Ministry give us an audience.

Just Events Online disclosed that as at the time reporting the investigative report, Engr. Shehu Umar has spent 1year and 10months in an acting capacity, as against the provision of the Edict of the Corporation which stipulated a minimum of 3months, and a maximum of 6months.
