Man, 21, Sent to Prison for Stealing Dog in Kano

The defendant admitted to the accusation and entered a guilty plea.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that on Wednesday, a Kano Sharia Court in Fagge ruled that Alhassan Yusuf, a 21-year-old man who pleaded guilty to stealing a dog valued N10,000 be placed in a correctional centre.
The defendant who resides in Tudun Maliki Quarters in Kumbotso Local Government Area, Kano is accused of two counts of illegal trespass and theft.
The defendant admitted to the accusation and entered a guilty plea.
Dr. Bello Khalid, the Presiding Judge, directed that the defendant be detained in a correctional facility.
He postponed the case until December 3rd, when it will be sentenced.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Mr Abdul Wada, had informed the court that the defendant committed the offence on Nov.8, at Tudun Maliki Quarters Kano.
He said that at about 5.40 p.m. the defendant trespassed into the house of one Najib Shehu situated at Tudun Maliki Quarters Kano.
Wada said the defendant Shehu’s dog was worth N10,000.
Wada said that the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 133 of the Kano State Sharia Law.
