  • Engr Sikiru Emerged 91 Set President as Alaro Alumni Association Celebrate Teachers in Style

On Saturday, November 20 2021, the beautiful Centenary Hall of St. Michael Anglican Church Epe, played host to accomplished veteran educators whose contributions to the growth of education in the Epe community was evident in the calibre of old students of Alaro Community High School, ’91 set, who gathered to rejoice and celebrate their 30th Anniversary of graduation.

The atmosphere was that of ecstasy, mirthful reflections and astonishing flashbacks as both the old students and their veteran teachers who are now Senior Citizens rolled back the years in a glamorous fashion with school rhymes, poems, songs, slangs and mime.

The event was indeed a memorable one as the organizers honoured their teachers with awards of excellence.

Also lined up for the event was the presentation of 2500 copies of Exercise Books and Five Public Address System to five Schools in Epe, a gesture aimed at giving back to society.

However, the inauguration of new executives to steer the affairs of the association featured in the program.

The newly inaugurated President of Alaro Community High School Old Students’ Association, ACHSOSA, Class of ’91, Engineer Olakunle Sikiru, who addressed the gathering, disclosed that the reward of teachers should begin on earth before heaven based on the enormous impacts made on the lives of students, hence, the reason behind the colourful celebrations after 30 years.

“In the past, people used to say that the reward of a teacher is in heaven. I want to categorically tell us at this gathering that our teachers deserve to be rewarded, recognised and motivated right here on earth. To me, I see our teachers as destiny moulders and pathfinders.

“Many of us are what are who we are today for the selfless services and mentorship of our teachers. In fact, we should cultivate the habit of giving back to the people we have received so much from any time and anywhere we see our teachers not just on a particular occasion like this,” he stated.

This online media platform gathered that beneficiaries were presented with beautiful award plaques, cash gifts and food items in recognition of their unwavering moral support and academic contributions at the fun-filled event with cultural displays, merriment and comic relief.

Earlier, the national president of the association, Hon Iberu Abolanle, addressing the gathering, lauded the kind gesture and admonished the newly inaugurated members of the association to be dedicated and committed towards the growth of the association which he said is beneficial.

Abolanle, thereafter, assured that the national body of the old students association would harmonise all sets in another event to foster affection, connection and the growth of members.

Notable among the recipients were the former Head Master, St. Michael Anglican Primary School (1984 -1986) and former inspector in charge of both primary and secondary schools in Epe, for Lagos State Ministry of Education; Mr Samuel Oluwole Odunlami; the wife of the late Rev. of St. Michael, Mrs Alabi Winfred Adeyinka; Mr Charles Enaturu; Mrs Ottun, and others.

The representative of Oloja of Epe Land, HRM, Oba Kamorudeen Ishola Animashaun and one of the special guests at the event, the Executive Chairman, Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Engr. Seun Olowa popularly known as JAJA, on behalf of the Old Students, had the honour to present the awards and educational support materials to the awardees and the benefiting schools; Alaro Community Junior and Senior High Schools; St. Michael Anglican Primary School 1 & 2; and Anglican Primary School, Ebute-Afuye.

Dignitaries at the event include the Oloja of Epe, His Royal Majesty, Oba Kamorudeen Ishola Animashaun represented by the Oloritun of Ikesan, Chief Adegboyega Adeleke, the Jagunmolu of Epe, Chief Sikiru Ajishafe; Principals of Alaro Community Junior and Senior High School, Mrs Raheem Bernice Olufunke; and Mrs Adeosun Bernice Aderonke, Head Teachers, St. Michael Anglican Primary School 1 and 2, respectively; Mrs Joseph Elizabeth Titilayo, Head Teacher, Anglican Primary School, Ebute-Afuye amongst other notable personalities.
