He expressed excitement at the infrastructural and human capital development the Governor has employed to boost the education sector in the State.

“I’m glad that Lagos State is doing a lot, the Governor of Lagos State, His Excellency Babajide Sanwo-Olu is doing a lot in the area of education in primary and secondary schools. When you go to various parts of Lagos, you’ll see the infrastructures that we have. Apart from that, we have a lot of teachers in schools, so, we only need to do more in monitoring the activities of these skills.”

Speaking further said the education system in the state can be better if there is a strategic mentoring structure for the students.

“We must also try to create a mentoring structure. There is nothing wrong if some successful people in the society are used as mentors or role models for young people because when they see people who have achieved, they will also want to achieve,” he said.

He seized the medium to announce the commencement of LIterary and Debating Society (LIDS) and Sports across Ibeju-Lekki Local Government in 2022. These, he believed, were capable of bringing back competitiveness in the school system as it was in the days of old

“From next year, we are going to bring back Literary and Debating Society Activities; I’ve invited the Ibeju-Lekki chapter of ANCOPSS and also sports. Alaro, Ogunmodede used to be very strong in football, I’ll be glad if those sort of competitions could be revived”

“For example, in our time, there was the literary and debating society that we have to move from one school to another. Coincidentally, I did my Primary education in Epe, so, these categories of people celebrating their anniversary are some of my colleagues.

“Through the LIDS, we were able to compete among ourselves, compete academically and all of that. But most of those things no longer exist in the school system and I think it is one of those things we will need to bring back in our Local Government in Ibeju-Lekki,” Olowa disclosed.

The chairman was optimistic about the reinvigoration of the education sector, stating that all stakeholders must work in synergies to return discipline to schools to deliver an education system that works for all.

“There is a way out, it requires every one of us to pay attention to the education of our young people. No doubt the system has suffered from a lot of challenges. For example, an incident occurred in Ibeju-Lekki where some students misbehaved and I had to intervene. I even had to call the parents to come and sign an undertaking with us that their children will not misbehave again.

“There is a need for parents, teachers and the government to work together to ensure that we can return discipline to schools. So many things have changed, information dissemination now is not the same way it was some 20 years ago, the kids of nowadays are exposed to a whole lot of these things which also affects their reasoning and I believe there can be an improvement,” he declared.
