The video-sharing and video-streaming platforms have restricted their services in Russia over invasion of Ukraine

EKO HOT BLOG reports that TikTok, a video-sharing platform, and Netflix, a video-streaming platform, have cut their services in Russia over its invasion of Ukraine
As reported by BBC, TikTok said it suspended live streaming and new content from its platform as it assesses tough new laws to crack down on fake news about Russian forces.
It was gathered that since last Friday, anyone who writes false news about the military could face up to 15 years in jail.
According to TikTok, which has around 36 million users in Russia, the move was to ensure the safety of its staff and users.
It said in a series of Tweets, “In light of Russia’s new ‘fake news’ law, we have no choice but to suspend live-streaming and new content to our video service while we review the safety implications of this law.
“Our in-app messaging service will not be affected.”
“We will continue to evaluate the evolving circumstances in Russia to determine when we might fully resume our services with safety as our top priority.”
To protest against the invasion, Netflix said it was pulling out of Russia.
This online media platform recalls that BBC and other news outlets already stopped reporting in Russia, as they claimed they could no longer be independent.
While reacting to the criticisms levelled against the Chinese-owned TikTok for not speaking out against Russia invading Ukraine, it described the war in Ukraine as devastating, adding that it had brought pain to our community and our people.
