Police Arrest Bayelsa Woman For Burning Stepdaughter’s Bum With Hot Knife

Police in Bayelsa State have arrested Esther Otoniye for allegedly using a hot knife to inflict burns on her 10-year-old stepdaughter’s buttocks.
She also claimed that the victim’s buttock burns were caused by hot water by accident.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Police in Bayelsa State have arrested Esther Otoniye for allegedly using a hot knife to inflict burns on her 10-year-old stepdaughter’s buttocks.

Scars covered the little girl’s body, indicating that she had been severely beaten by the Otoniye.

However, the suspect, who was arrested at her home in the Akenfa suburb of Yenagoa, the state capital, denied the charge and accused the minor, a Primary Three student, of lying against her.

She also claimed that the victim’s buttock burns were caused by hot water by accident.

However, the little girl claimed that Otoniye burned her with a hot knife for lying.

However, following complaints from women’s and children’s rights organizations, the Commissioner of Police, Ben Okolo, ordered Otoniye’s arrest.

It was learnt that the gender desk at the state police command in charge of the case took the victim to the police clinic for an examination.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Asinim Butswat, said the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department.

“It is a case where the stepmother used a hot knife to inflict bodily injuries on a 10-year-old stepdaughter. Investigation is ongoing,” Butswat added.

Bayelsa is one of Nigeria’s southernmost states, located in the heart of the Niger Delta region. Bayelsa State was formed in 1996 from Rivers State, making it one of the federation’s newest states. It shares a border with Rivers State to the east and Delta State to the west, with the Atlantic Ocean dominating its southern borders.
