1. COEASU resumes warning strike, to last four weeks
The Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union has resumed its warning strike, which was suspended in 2018, over alleged neglect of the Colleges of Education sub-sector by Federal and State governments.
Its Northwest Secretary, Inuwa Ishaq-Inuwa, announced this to newsmen at a press conference on Saturday in Kano.
Ishaq-Inuwa, who is also the COEASU Chairman, Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education, Kumbotso, Kano State, said that the union was left with no option other than to resume the strike.
He said that the union’s National Headquarters, under the leadership of its President, Dr Smart Olugbeko, directed all state-owned Colleges of Education to join the strike and press home their local demands.
2. Biden falls during bicycle ride, says, ‘I’m good’
President of the United States, Joe Biden, tumbled as he was riding his bicycle near his beach home in the state of Delaware Saturday morning, but was unhurt.
A video from a White House pool report showed the 79-year-old president immediately getting up after his fall. He then says, “I’m good.”
He was biking with First Lady Jill Biden in a state park near their beach home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware and had stopped to talk to onlookers when he fell.
The president told a small crowd of well-wishers and reporters that he had lost his balance as he tried to pull a foot out of a bike clip.
3. Abia APC factions reconcile, vow to win gov election
The two factions of the All Progressive Congress in Abia State have collapsed into one body ahead of the 2023 general election.
The two factions came together during a reconciliation meeting held in Ikwuano Local Government of the State on Saturday.
The reconciliation was announced in a communique read by a former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Martins Azubuike.
The governorship candidate of the party, Ikechi Emenike, said that he will rescue the state from bad governance if elected the next governor of the state.

4. 2023: I’ll support Tinubu with every fiber of my being, says Fani-Kayode
Former Minister of Aviation and chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC Femi Fani Kayode has reiterated that he will do everything within his capabilities to rally support for Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the party.
He said, “I will support them with every fiber of my being. It is as simple as that. I make my choices and you can make yours after which we meet in the field.”
Fani-Kayode, who made the assertion in a thread of tweets via his verified Twitter handle, said he will not back down on his support for Tinubu.
He said regardless of what might have transpired in the past, the fact Tinubu is now the democratically-elected and legitimate candidate of the party to which he belongs is more imperative than events of the past.
5. Matawalle appoints 169 aides, others
Gov. Bello Matawalle of Zamfara has approved the appointment of additional 169 top government officials and aides, in a bid to promote unity within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
This is contained in a nine-page official document issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Kabiru Balarabe, on Saturday in Gusau.
He announced that Alhaji Isha Umar had been appointed Chairman, Zamfara Independent Electoral Commission, while Alhaji Usman Magami and Alhaji Bashir Abdullahi appointed as Special Advisers.
Others are 103 Senior Special Assistants (SSAs), 28 Directors General, and 13 Special Assistants to the governor.
6. Join cult, lose your admission, Oko Poly Rector tells students
THE Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State, Dr. Francisca Nwafulugo has warned that any student of the institution who got involved in cultism and examination malpractices would automatically lose his or her admission.
The Rector, who spoke during the 38th matriculation ceremony of the polytechnic said that adequate measures had been put in place to ensure that the issue of cultism does not rear its head in any of the three campuses of the Polytechnic.
She said: “We have zero tolerance for cultism. Our internal security network is working effectively and has kept cultism at bay.
“| wish to inform you that cultism is extinct here. This has given our students the peace of mind and energy to focus on their studies without fear of intimidation or molestation.

7. Vote buying mars Ekiti governorship poll
There was a massive turnout of voters during the Saturday’s governorship poll in Ekiti State as electorates trooped out as early as 6:45am.
The governorship election witnessed voters’ inducement while the technology deployed by the Independent National Electoral Commission, Biometric Voter Authentication System did not function properly in some polling units.
The INEC officials and materials arrived almost polling units early before the official time for the commencement of voting.
There were pockets of complaints about malfunctioning of the BVAS machines.In some of the polling units while the voters induced to vote in particular directions.

9. Kano Gov, Ganduje visits Hajj House, Abuja
Alhaji Zikrullah Kunle Hassan, Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), received in his office on 15 June, 2022, the Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar Ganduje on a courtesy visit.
According to the Kano state governor, he was in the Hajj House to make a request and to exchange pleasantries.

10. Yobe govt talks tough against illegal mining, vows to sanction unlicensed miners
Yobe State Government has urged miners operating in the state without license to obtain one from the relevant authorities or risk being sanctioned accordingly.
Hon. Sidi Yakubu Karasuwa, Chairman of the State Committee for Mobilization and Sensitization of Communities with Mineral Deposits, who also doubles as the Commissioner of Environment, handed down the warning when he led other members of the committee on an advocacy visit to some emirate councils in the state.
At Fika Emirate, the Commissioner explained to the monarch that the purpose of the visit was to enlighten and create awareness on the dangers of illegal mining in their domains, noting that government has put necessary mechanisms in place to sanitize the sector for the development of the state.
