Japan defeated Germany 2-1 to record another shock result in the World Cup.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that Japan’s national team has beaten the European Giant Germany 2-1 in their Group E opener of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Manchester City’s captain Ilkay Gundogan had put the German side ahead in the 33rd minute with a penalty kick.
Hansi Flick’s side put the ball in the back of the net again during the added time at the end of the first half – but it was disallowed for being offside.
Japan’s Ritsu Doan, who plays for Freiburg in Germany, equalised in the 75th minute before a simple long ball over the top was put away by Takuma Asano in the 83rd minute to put Japan into the lead.

It was yet further World Cup woe for four-time winners Germany, with the loss leaving them with a potentially must-win game against Spain next, while Japan takes on Costa Rica…
Japan proved to be a strong rival for the German side, which is one of the fan’s favourite squads to progress in the World Cup.
Germany will face Spain on November 27 and Costa Rica on December 1, while Japan will lock horns with Costa Rica on November 27 and Spain on December 1.
