This medium gathered that the Epe Consultative Forum (ECF) facilitated the event.
The ECF, a support and mobilisation group of Abiru and the All Progressives Congress (APC), was led by APC Chieftain and former Epe Local Government Chairman, Hon. Segun Agbaje (Coordinator) alongside Dr. Hakeem Tugbobo, the (Convener of Asiwaju Grassroot Talk, AG) and Duke Olabode Gabardeen, (former Commissioner of the Lagos State Local Government Service Commission).
Eko Hot Blog reports that the Lagos East senator, who could not visit the hospital physically, joined the exercise through a WhatsApp video call.
He applauded the ECF leadership for embarking on the exercise.
The lawmaker also commended the efforts of the hospital management team in improving access to Medicare in line with world-best practices.
Congratulating Mrs. Psalm-Shayor Omolola, the lucky nursing mother who delivered the Baby of the Year, Abiru alluded her safe delivery through the Caesarian Section to the expertise of committed medical personnel operating at the Maternal and Child Center (MCC) section of the Epe General Hospital.
In an interview on the sidelines of the event, the ECF Coordinator disclosed that the team distributed a cash sum of N5,000 each, alongside packaged provisions, to a total of 125 patients and some identified less privileged members of the Epe community.
“We want to show a copious example of what our Senator has been doing in Lagos East. We’re members of ECF and we’re here to support the less privileged people and patients in Epe General Hospital,” Agbaje said.
“We want them to get back to society on time. We felt we have to encourage them to let them know that we need them back in society. Today is a new year, and we know it will be a memorable one for them.”
He noted that the funds were released by the Senator to Consultative Forums across Local Governments and LCDAs in Lagos East Senatorial District to celebrate Christmas and New Year.
The former LG chairman, however, added that the ECF leadership in Epe channeled the funds towards humanitarian gestures.
Dr. Tugbobo, one of the notable leaders of the ECF, while stressing the significance of the gesture, averred that the new year is a time to show love to the less privileged and give thanks to God for good health.
“In light of that, we’re giving back to society. The most important therapy for wellness is love and that’s what we’re doing today,” he said.
On his part, Duke Olabode Garbadeen, another leader of the forum, hailed Abiru’s efforts, stressing that his humanitarian disposition earned him the ‘DoingGood’ nickname.
“This is another testimony that he’s always doing good. My interest in him is that he’s always focused on the less privileged. His mind is always connected to the less privileged people. That’s why we are having this beautiful program today,” he said.
“As we have people going about celebrating the new year, our thoughts are with those on the hospital bed hoping that they get well soon and join us back in society.”
Earlier, the Head of the Department of Medical Social Services, Mr. R. T Ayanbisi, alongside the Apex Nurse, Mrs. Balogun, conducted the ECF team around the wards.
Ayanbisi commended the forum’s efforts, adding that it was a great relief to the management.
“We are very grateful on behalf of the management of the hospital to receive you. Senator Abiru’s achievement is not a surprise. We don’t want our people to remain in the hospital after receiving treatment,” he said.
“Despite the fact that some of them are owing us, we still want them to go home rather than delay them. Your coming here is a big achievement.”
